Health Insurance
What is health insurance and how can I get it?
The Marketplace & Affordable Care Act also known as "Obamacare", was developed to help individuals access affordable health insurance. There is no exam or medical check. Everyone is approved. Premiums are calculated by income not health history. These plans could be subsidized by the government, depending on household income.
Marketplace plans are sorted by medal tiers. Depending on the level, they will have deductibles, copays, co-insurance and out of pocket maximums. There are only certain times of the year you can enroll into a medical plan.
Open Enrollment for healthcare starts on Nov 1st and usually goes through December 15th each year.
The other option is Short-Term Medical (STM). It is offered by some private insurance carriers and is based on age and health. It is reviewed yearly to see if you still qualify.
Short-Term Medical Insurance is perfect for those in between coverage. Short-Term Medical plans are ideal for those who are:
- Between jobs or laid off or waiting for employer benefits.
- Part-time or temporary employees or recently graduated or those without adequate health insurance.
- These plans are approved based on age and medical history.
- 60% of all bankruptcies are from medical expenses! Protect you and your family from this risk.
